Vantaa-born, Jyväskylä-raised forward, one season at Arizona and the No. 7 pick in 2017, then Chicago and Cleveland before the 2022 Donovan Mitchell trade made him Utah's All-Star centerpiece. His food story runs through Hook, the Finnish wings-and-burgers chain: it sold his "Markkas" veggie burger in 2018 and a line of Markkanen sauces in 2019, and in 2022 he took a sizable stake in the new Hook in Jyväskylä, which has a private room named after him. At home he prefers cooking to eating out; in Arizona he perfected a Chipotle order and learned to ask for In-N-Out Animal Style.
