Fukui native from Tsuruga Kehi High and Aoyama Gakuin University who starred for the Orix Buffaloes from 2016 and joined the Red Sox in 2023. He owns Sushi Yoshimasa, an eight-seat counter in his hometown that he opened the year he moved to the U.S. "to contribute to his hometown", with rice grown by his father. On his only off day in April 2023 he ate two bowls at Tsurumen Davis in Somerville, and that January, before the World Baseball Classic, he dined at Bistro Mont Martre in Naha.
