Kitakyushu native known as "the Throwing Philosopher" who pitched for Komazawa University and the Yokohama DeNA BayStars, led the Central League in strikeouts in 2023, and was an All-Star in his first Cubs season in 2024. Portillo's built Shota's Lineup around his order (a Maxwell Street Polish, fries, a drink and chocolate cake), and he met fans at its Addison & Kimball store in July 2026. In 2025 he became the first official ambassador for Sukesan Udon, the Kitakyushu chain he grew up on, and he starts game days with a Dunkin' latte.
